ESV Granular Activated Carbon based on bituminous coal provides the best combination of pore size, large particle size, high surface area, low ash, and hardness for chemically filtering aquarium water. In addition, test results indicate no leaching of phosphates. The high hardness level of this carbon prevents the dispersion of particles throughout the aquarium which can occur with softer grades of carbon. The large particle size facilitates water movement through the carbon and helps prevent the removal of planktonic food organisms via mechanical filtration.

Matrix™ is a high porosity biomedia that provides efficient biofiltration for the removal of nitrogenous waste. Matrix™ is a porous inorganic solid about 10 mm in diameter. Each liter of Matrix™ provides as much surface (<162 m) as 40 liters of plastic balls! Plastic bio-materials provide only external surface area, whereas Matrix™ provides internal macroporous surface area. These macropores are ideally sized for the support of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Matrix™, unlike other forms of biomedia, to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter. Matrix™ is completely inert and will not breakdown. It need not be replaced. Use 1–2 Liters of Matrix™ for each 100 gallons. Since the majority of the bacteria are internal, Matrix™ may be rinsed when needed without damaging the filter. A regenerable, bead shaped resin which safely removes heavy metals. Safe for use in all aquatic systems. Removes copper, lead, mercury and other heavy metals from marine and freshwater aquariums. Also works well to remove metals from tap water. Contains special form macroporous cation exchange resins. Regenerable over and over again. Light beads turn a slight blue or gray, indicating exhaustion and need for regeneration. Resin life is about 2 years of service. 250 ml size.

MatrixCarbon™ is a truly unique activated carbon, bead shaped for optimal hydrodynamics. This provides maximum water flow and contact with a high density of adsorptive sites without the compacting common to granular activated carbon. MatrixCarbon™ has a very low ash content as indicated by its minimal impact on pH. Even when added to distilled water, it does not raise pH above 7.0. While all carbons contain phosphate, regardless of false claims to the contrary, MatrixCarbon™ has the lowest leachable phosphate content of all major carbon brands tested. Kent Marine Nitrate Sponge is a granular zeolitic medium which works by two methods. 1) It slowly directly adsorbs small amounts of ammonia that are released by fish and natural processes, and 2) it fosters anaerobic bacterial denitrification due to its physical porous structure. This denitrification slowly reduces nitrate levels in the aquarium. It works well in freshwater tanks or tap water to remove toxic ammonia directly! SeaGel™is an efficient blend of MatrixCarbon™ and PhosGuard™. SeaGel™ removes organic and color impurities, phosphates, silicates, toxic metals and acids. Both components are bead shaped for optimum water flow characteristics. SeaGel™ is ideal for reef and marine aquarium use, particularly for algae control. It may also be used in freshwater that is not phosphate buffered. A 250 mL bottle will treat 40–60 gallons for 3 to 4 months. Marine or freshwater use.

Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge is a ceramic medium which will adsorb phosphates quickly (within hours) when placed directly in the water flow. Works in fresh and saltwater aquariums or ponds to bring about 1.0 ppm of phosphate or silicates down to less than .05 ppm in a 120 gallon tank for every dry quart of medium. For silicate to be removed, phosphates must first be removed. Beads are cracked to expose more surface area and increase efficiency! This product will not release soluble aluminum compounds into your aquarium, causing negative reactions from your inverts, as competing products may. Will also absorb moisture for use as an air dryer for ozone, and can be renewed over and over in moisture removal service!
