The Turboflotor 1000 uses the same patented Needle Wheel technology as the whole Aqua Medic Turboflotor skimmer family. The Needle Wheel rotates at 3.600 rpm in the pump housing, the air/water mixture is heavily agitated and the air bubbles are cut into micro bubbles for optimum skimming efficiency. The Needle Wheel pump draws water directly from the skimmer, mixes it with air and drives the mixture back into the skimmer. A great advantage of the skimmer is its aquarium water supply. Water flows directly to the skimmer as a bypass (approx. 250 gph) from the overflow of the aquarium, without the need for a pump. In this way, the flow rate can be easily adjusted with a valve. This means the whole power of the Needle Wheel pump is used to inject air. This water flow creates an extremely high turbulence in the lower part of the skimmer and ensures that a very high quantity of air (approx. 50 g.p.h) is injected. The upper part of the skimmer stays calm and leaves enough time for the bubbles to react with the organic wastes and form a stable dry foam, that is pushed into the conical shaped foam cup. The Turboflotor 1000 multi is the most versatile of our skimmers. It can be used as hang on, fixed outside of the aquarium frame as well as inside or outside of a filter sump in the cabinet. In the hang on mode, only the venturi pump is placed in the aquarium itself. It consists of a venturi pump with needle wheel, the skimmer itself with a conical foam cup with lid and 2 outflow boxes for directing the outlet back to the aquarium. Up to 250 gallons.

The Turboflotor 5000 Shorties have been developed from the successful Turboflotor 5000 as under the cabinet models. They close the gap between the Turboflotor 1000 multi - for aquariums up to 150 gal and the Turboflotor 5000 baby for aquariums from 250 - 500 gal. The Shorties are manufactured in 2 sizes to fit into most aquarium cabinets. Like the larger models, they are supplied with a venturi pump and our patented needle wheel. The pump takes the water from the skimmer and mixes it with air in the pump housing. The needle wheel ensures perfect mixing and very fine air bubbles. The water supply to the skimmer requires a second pump with a capacity of minimum 500 gph. The skimmer may also be directly connected to the overflow of the aquarium.
